On the Occasion of Multai Shaheed Kisan Smriti Divas 12 Jan. 2014 Lokavidya Jan Andolan Conference 10-12 Jan. 2014 in Multai, (Betul, M.P.)

This is the invitation cum announcement of the Lokavidya Jan Andolan (LJA) Conference scheduled between 10-12 January 2014 in Multai in the district of Betul in Madhya Pradesh. The plan is to discuss the organizational question and the significance of LJA for the politics of change. We may do this by focusing the discussion on the question of coordination between peasant and adivasi struggles all over the country and their relationship with the struggles of small retailers, women and the artisans and service providers, generally those said to belong to the unorganized sector. 

Dr. Sunilam, the leader of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti there has invited us to hold this conference in Multai on the occasion of the Martyr's Day, 12th January, on which in 1998 a farmers' gathering demanding relief and compensation for crop failure continuously for three years, was fired upon by police killing 24 farmers and injuring 150. Further, a large number of farmers and their leaders have been booked in a variety of cases. This unparalleled event has resulted in farmers and social activists collecting in Multai every year on 12th January to pay homage to martyrs and to deliberate over the future of people's movements. Dr. Sunilam, Prahlad and Sheshrao have been sentenced for life-imprisonment in October 2012 and are presently on bail.

We have been reporting LJA activities on this blog. This knowledge movement of the people has come up with new ideas and practices to develop a lokavidya focused dialogue in the world of knowledge which may have serious bearing on a new political imagination. Organizational and constructive initiatives have been taken in the names of lokavidya samvad, lokavidya samanvay samooh, lokavidya mel-milap, lokavidya ashram, lokavidya panchayat, lokavidya prapancham, lokavidya sadhikar sanghatna, lokavidya bhaichara vidyalaya, lokavidya satsang and lokavidya tana-bana. 

Since the founding conference of LJA in Varanasi in November 2011, regional conferences have been held in Darbhanga, Vijaywada, Singrauli and Indore. Two large gatherings of LJA activists have taken place, one in Sewagram in March 2012 and another in Mumbai in February 2013. This time the attempt is to mobilize LJA activists and others associated with the struggles of farmers, adivasis and generally the unorganized sector from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. There will also be participation from other places.

Lokavidya Satsang in the afternoon and a meeting in the evening to plan the next two days. It will also deliberate on the Multai Delaration.

This blog shall keep debating the program and the ideas towards the preparation of this conference. This is to invite you to write, please do. 

Dr. Sunilam and several of his co-workers have extended a general invitation on behalf of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (KSS) for participation in this program. The Hindi post done yesterday gives their letter of invitation. KSS shall take care of the lodging and boarding of the participants. Participants may kindly arrange for their own travel. Betul and Multai are on Itarsi-Nagpur train route. Multai is about 60 km from Betul and about 125 km from Nagpur.

मुलताई (बैतूल,म.प्र.) में शहीद किसान स्मृति सम्मलेन व लोकविद्या जन आंदोलन समागम 10 - 12 जनवरी 2014

लोकविद्या जन आंदोलन (लो.ज.आ.) का एक राष्ट्रीय समागम 11 जनवरी 2014 को मुलताई (मध्य प्रदेश ) में होने जा रहा है। मुलताई में किसान संघर्ष समिति के नेता डा. सुनीलम ने हमें वहाँ लोकविद्या जन आंदोलन के कार्यक्रम करने का यह न्यौता दिया है। किसान संघर्ष समिति द्वारा जारी किया गया निमंत्रण और लो.ज.आ. के इस समागम के लिए विद्या आश्रम द्वारा तैयार कार्यक्रम नीचे दिया जा रहा है। कार्यक्रम के लिये अपने सुझाव लिखें तथा मुलताई आने का कार्यक्रम बनाएं, 10  जनवरी तक आ जाएं। 

लोकविद्या जन आंदोलन के अंतर्गत विकसित हो रहे  विचारों और कार्यक्रमों की रपटें इस ब्लॉग पर छपती रही हैं। इस ज्ञान आंदोलन के तहत लोकविद्या समन्वय समूह, लोकविद्या मेल-मिलाप, लोकविद्या सत्संग, लोकविद्या ताना-बाना, लोकविद्या भाईचारा विद्यालय, लोकविद्या प्रपञ्चम, लोकविद्या साधिकार संघटना और लोकविद्या आश्रम के नाम से विचार और कार्यक्रम बनते गए हैं।  अबकी बार मुलताई में परिवर्तन की राजनीति के लिए लो.ज.आ. के महत्व और संगठन के सवाल पर चर्चा शुरू करने का प्रयास रहेगा।  

नवम्बर 2011 के लो.ज.आ. के प्रथम अधिवेशन के बाद दरभंगा (मार्च-अप्रैल 2012), विजयवाड़ा (मई 2012), सिंगरौली (सितम्बर 2012) और इंदौर (जनवरी 2013) में क्षेत्रीय सम्मलेन हो चुके हैं।  मार्च 2012 में सेवाग्राम में और फरवरी 2013 में मुम्बई में संयोजन समिति व सलाहकार समिति की संयुक्त बैठकें हो चुकी हैं। इन बैठकों में इन समितियों के सदस्यों के अलावा और सक्रिय जन भी शामिल होते रहे हैं।  इस बार भी ऐसी ही योजना है। प्रयास यह किया जा रहा है कि मध्य प्रदेश, उत्तर प्रदेश, बिहार, महाराष्ट्र और आंध्र प्रदेश से लोकविद्या कार्यों से जुड़े तथा  लोकविद्याधर समाज के संघर्षों से जुड़े कार्यकर्ता लो.ज.आ. के इस मुलताई समागम में शामिल हों।  

कार्यक्रम 

10 जनवरी 2014  

लोकविद्या सत्संग और शाम को अगले दो दिन की तैयारी बैठक। इसी में मुलताई घोषणापत्र पर विचार किया जायेगा। लोकविद्या सत्संग की टोलियां इंदौर और वाराणसी से रास्ते में सत्संग करते हुए मुलताई पहुंचेंगी।

हम आपको यह आमंत्रण पत्र 15 वें शहीद किसान स्मृति सम्मलेन के श्रद्धांजली कार्यक्रम को लेकर भेज रहे हैं।  आप जानते ही हैं कि इस कार्यक्रम का विशेष महत्व है क्योंकि यहाँ के किसानों ने संघर्ष-प्रतिरोध की मिसाल कायम करते हुए बड़ी क़ुरबानी दी है।  यहाँ 12 जनवरी 1998 को कांग्रेस सरकार द्वारा किये गए पोलिस गोली चालन में 24 किसान शहीद हुए थे तथा 150  को गोली लगी थी। हर वर्ष किसान संघर्ष समिति द्वारा शहीद किसान स्मृति सम्मलेन आयोजित किया जाता है।  जिसमें देश भर के जन संगठन स्थानीय किसानों के साथ मिलकर शहीदों को श्रद्धांजलि देते हैं तथा मुलताई घोषणापत्र  जारी करते हैं।  12 जनवरी 2014 को जारी होने वाले मुलताई घोषणापत्र-15 में कौन से मुद्दे शामिल किये जाने चाहिए इस सम्बन्ध में हमें अपनी राय से अवगत कराने का कष्ट करें। 

11 जनवरी को मुलताई में सुबह से दोपहर तक लोकविद्या जन आंदोलन की राष्ट्रीय स्तर की बैठक विद्या आश्रम वाराणसी द्वारा आयोजित की जा रही है। दोपहर  3 बजे से दक्षिण एशिया सोशल फोरम की बैठक आयोजित की जायेगी। कृपया एक दिन पहले पहुँचने का कार्यक्रम बनाएं ताकि 11 जनवरी के कार्यक्रमों में भी आप भागीदारी कर सकें।  

कृपया स्मरण करें कि पिछले वर्ष के कार्यक्रम में डा. सुनीलम शामिल नहीं हो सके थे क्योंकि इन्हें तीन साथियों के साथ पोलिस गोली चालन के बाद उन पर 250 किसानों के साथ दर्ज किये गए 66 मुकदमों में से तीन मुकदमों में 52  वर्ष कि सजा सुनाई गयी थी और इस कारण वे जेल में थे। इस बार वे स्वयं आपके स्वागत के लिए उपस्थित रहेंगे।  

मुलताई कब पहुंचेंगे और कब लौटेंगे इसकी सूचना जगदीश दोडके  ( 09179124860 )  अथवा   डा. सुनीलम ( 09425109770 ) को देने का कष्ट करें।  मुलताई पहुँचने पर आपके भोजन और  ठहरने कि व्यवस्था हमारे द्वारा की जायेगी।  कृपया यात्रा व्यय की व्यवस्था स्वयं करने का कष्ट करें।  यह उल्लेख करना आवश्यक है कि जनवरी में यहाँ काफी सर्दी होती है।  

मुलताई नागपुर-इटारसी रेल मार्ग पर है जिस पर बैतूल भी है।  यह बैतूल से लगभग 60 कि. मी. तथा नागपुर से 125 कि. मी. दूर है।

South Asia Social Forum (SASF) Lucknow 1-5 March 2014.

A South Asia Social Forum (SASF) has been decided to be held in Lucknow between 1-5 March 2014. Lokavidya Jan Andolan has decided to participate in it. We have been to the preparatory meetings in Lucknow, Delhi and Kathmandu. Ravi and Ekta have located themselves in Lucknow and have taken charge of the SASF Lucknow Secretariat. Dilip Kumar 'dili' is involved in dialoguing and mobilization. Avinash is helping formulate the knowledge focus of the dialogue space. Sanjeev Daji has taken the responsibility of  mobilizing from the Malwa region. Vilas Bhongade and Girish have initiated preparations from Nagpur. Andhra and Bihar friends are expected to come in with their programs.

We are engaged both at the General Council level in formulating the theme areas and at the Lucknow Secretariat in details of organization.

Since the Asia Social Forum 2003 in Hyderabad we have organized workshops and published bulletins on Dialogues on Knowledge in Society in the WSF events in Mumbai, Karachi, Delhi and Nairobi. All the bulletins are there on our website www.vidyaashram.org

Now there is again occasion to place the ideas of lokavidya and the new political imagination thereof before a much larger audience.
This time a knowledge theme has been included in the basic thematic structure of the Social Forum. It is quite likely that there will be a two day knowledge conference sponsored by the International Council of WSF, the conference to be primarily organized by Lokavidya Jan Andolan, of course in collaboration with others. Avinash had prepared for one of the meetings a note focusing on how the knowledge issue is emerging to occupy the center stage. This is also to request Avinash to post that note on this blog.

We are in the process of planning the following conferences and workshops at SASF around the general idea of people’s knowledge claims –

1.   Gyan Panchayat: People’s hearing on questions of knowledge in society and the university knowledge – a five pole hut-shade is the location. It is to symbolize women, peasants, adivasis, artisans and small retailers as both the most oppressed and the knowledgeable communities today.

2.  Lokavidya Satsang: Lokavidya Gayaki, mainly adapted from Kabir, to be recited by groups of singers with a simultaneous discourse and dialogue from the lokavidya point of view.

3.  Lokavidya Wiki: This workshop is to discuss the ways of building an open collaborative process of creating a Lokavidya Wiki as a self organizing, autonomous part of the wiki world. Some beginning has been made at Vidya Ashram.

4.  Artists’ Knowledge Meet: Gathering of artists to discuss the meaning of knowledge in and as seen from their world and the political significance of such an undertaking.

5. Global Fraternity of Knowledge Movements: Workshop with the participation of peoples’ knowledge movements from many parts of the world. Debating the form and content of such fraternal relationships.  

Other than these, the general plan includes focus on the peoples’ knowledge interface with the national policy through conferences of farmers, adivasis, women, artisans and small retailers and workshops on energy, displacement and language. 

Slowly it would become clear how this space on knowledge and politics can be utilized in its full scope.

लोकविद्या सत्संग

विद्या आश्रम से लोकविद्या सत्संग का अभियान अब सक्रिय तौर पर शुरू किया गया है. कई वर्षों पहले आश्रम से लोकविद्या सत्संग शुरू किये गये थे। वाराणसी में गंगाजी के घाटों पर और विशेष अवसरों पर प्रयाग में संगम पर लोकविद्या सत्संग के नाम से गायन और वार्ता के कार्यक्रम आयोजित किये जाते रहे. पिछले साल इन्दौर के क्षेत्र में वहां के लोकविद्या समन्वय समूह ने कई ऐसे कार्यक्रम आयोजित किये जो मुख्य रूप से कबीर की गायकी पर आधारित थे। गाँव-गाँव से मंडलियाँ शामिल होती थीं और रात-रात भर भी कार्यक्रम हुए, गाँवों में हुए और कारीगर बस्तियों में हुए। 

अब विद्या आश्रम ने लोकविद्या सत्संग के नाम से एक पुस्तिका तैयार की है. यह लोकविद्या जन आंदोलन पुस्तकमाला की पांचवीं कड़ी है। इसमें कबीर के पदों का लोकविद्या संस्करण जैसा बनाया गया है. आश्रम इन पदों को गाने वालों का एक समूह बना रहा है। लोकविद्या आश्रमों में, भाईचारा विद्यालयों से, ज्ञान पंचायतों में और सम्मेलनों तथा संघर्ष व आंदोलन के स्थानों पर इन पदों की गायकी और समसामयिक चर्चा के साथ लोकविद्या सत्संग किये जायेंगे. पुस्तिका विद्या आश्रम की वेब साइट पर है और लिंक भी नीचे दिया जा रहा है.
